SheSTEM, a club founded by a group of high school girls, serves to break gender stereotypes in the STEM community inside Isinglan by encouraging young girls to "STEM" Through stem-based activities and projects, SheSTEM hopes to raise awareness and reduce the gender disparities in STEM fields. Gender stereotypes are deeply ingrained in people's minds, and this is on account of the traditional beliefs being promoted to girls at a young age, causing them to develop the notion that "girls cannot thrive in STEM subjects. This negative effect may hold girls back from achieving their true potential. We understand that it is important to cultivate an interest in science at a young age. Therefore, our club set up an experimental elective for Grades 4-5 girls to cultivate their interest and confidence in STEM. Our course combines theoretical and practical knowledge to provide a fun and educational "hands-on" experience with science.
On the 24th of November, we opened our first elective. Under our club members' guidance, students conducted a flower dyeing experiment and learned about the concepts behind how this dyeing effect is achieved in flowers.
